Indian Passport

Passport is a prerequisite for everything starting with IELTS test to Flight booking. The Indian Passport is also going to be the only 'valid' identity proof when you are in Germany. So this is a mandatory step. If you already have a Passport, go ahead with the next step in the application process. Here is a detailed procedure for getting the Passport.

Required Documents

1. Documents for Passport interview

  1. Proof of Date of Birth

  2. Proof of Address (Aadhar card is preferred)

  3. Secondary School Certificate (SSC)/Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)/ Graduation certificate

  4. One year bank statement (if necessary)

2. Documents for Police Verification

  1. PAN card

  2. Ration card

  3. Two witness letters from your neighbors

  4. Driving license

  5. Electricity bill

Step by Step Procedure

  1. Register yourself by creating a user profile.

  2. After verifying your email address, login and update your profile here.

  3. Now you would need to select a date & time for your appointment with your Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). You can check the appointment availability here. You can select from the list of available Date & Time slots shown on the screen.

  4. Select your Passport booklet type (36 or 60 pages) and type of appointment (Normal or Tatkal)

  5. Pay the corresponding fee for the application (Rs. 1500 for Normal and Rs. 3500 for Tatkal)

  6. You would receive an email saying ‘your application is being processed’. This means that your online application is submitted to your Regional Passport Office.

Step by Step Procedure

  1. Be present at PSK at your respective reporting time. There is no need to go an hour before and stand in the queue.

  2. Once you enter the main office, hand over your documents to the staff at reception. He/she will take a scanned copy of them and then issue you a token. Now you can move to the waiting room.

  3. You will pass through 3 counters named A, B and C during this process.

    1. Counter A (Approx. 15 min) : (i) your documents will be verified. (ii) Your fingerprints, photograph, and signature will be taken.

    2. Counter B (Approx. 20 min) : All your original documents will be verified by Government Officials.

    3. Counter C (Approx. 20 min) : Again a final verification by the granting officer.

  4. You may have a waiting time for each counter. Once, you are done with all the steps, you will be given an acknowledgment slip.

  5. Total time: Approx. 2-3 hours

Police Verification

Step by Step Procedure

  1. After you finish the passport interview, you will receive an SMS about progress status of your Application. The next step is Police verification. You will receive an SMS/email with the name and the contact number of the Verification Officer assigned.

  2. Visit the corresponding police station. Meet the constable who has your file. Convince him to do the verification as quickly as possible. Take an appointment with the police officer to visit your place of stay.

  3. The next day you have to be physically present at the police station for verification interview. You may be asked to bring the above-mentioned documents and few additional documents, if necessary.

  4. Once verification is done, request the police officer to process your document and send it back to the regional passport office quickly.

  5. After this, your Passport will reach you in approximately 7 Days. You can use track application tool to check your passport status regularly.

  6. Once you get the passport, verify whether the information printed on the Passport data page is correct and complete and if any errors report to the PSK immediately.

Trivia

  1. In some cases, during the Police verification, you may be obliged to pay the Police officer. Handle it subtly because he will be the final authority in approving the issue of your Passport.

  2. In general, it would take 7-30 days for the issue of your 'normal' passport and 1-7 days for tatkal passport.
